Malt Building at Warrington
Brick Award Winner - Best refurbishment
Special Staffordshire blue facing bricks
This old brewery in Warrington had been home to the Greenalls brewery for over 80 years, but after its closure in the the late 1980's it remained derelict for around 11 years. ORMS Architects carried out a sensitive refurbishment, converting it from industrial use to a modern office block over 5 floors for which they were awarded Best Refurbishment at the BDA Brick Awards. The original building had few windows as they were not required by the brewing process, so new openings and windows were introduced. Special sized bricks in Staffordshire Blue, were made to match the existing brickwork and the use of bullnose bricks around the new openings and windows help to give a softer appearance and blend them into the existing facade. This historic building is now part of Wilderspool Park.
