New products to enhance biodiversity
Ketley bricks and specials are the most durable bricks you can find, tried and tested over many generations in the most demanding and exposed applications. They have been favoured by local authorities and landscape architects for years, and are often specified in public realm and heritage projects where authentic traditional materials are prefered.
However, at Ketley, we are not just traditional brick and paver manufacturers, we are clay innovators. Along with our new Vision bricks, we have also been developing exciting new products to enhance biodiversity that combine both function and aesthetics and will add real value to new developments and outdoor spaces.
Wall planter bricks for urban gardens
These planter bricks are the first clay planters to be made as an engineering brick and they have been developed specifically in response to the need to demonstrate a Net Biodiversity Gain with new planning applications and greater biodiversity and planting in urban areas where space and options are often restricted.
Incorporating Ketley planters within a scheme helps create a greener, more pleasant environment. They are suitable for large scale urban spaces, as well as residential gardens, and even apartments where they can introduce foliage and nature onto balconies and rooftop gardens. At 215mm wide, they fit perfectly on to the tops of walls instead of a capping, taking up no additional floor area within a scheme and positively contributing to the biodiversity. Growing herbs or salads outside the kitchen window or planting trailing flowers and other suitable plants are just some of the options available with these planters. They can be made in a variety of different profiles including Cants, Bullnose and Double Bullnose depending on the design requirements (for technical drawings click here) They feature a small weep hole along the bottom edge to allow for drainage and they make an attractive and practical solution to urban gardens. The returns (end units) are handmade, but the "middle" sections are extruded by machine and therefore an efficient way to add greenery to urban space. To save cost but maintain the profile, a regular brick special can also be used as a return.
