Hambledon Vineyard's new visitor centre and restaurant

Staffordshire brown brindle quarry tiles (commercial grade)

Garden designer - Emily Erlam

Commercial grade brown brindle tiles at Hambledon VineyardThis was the first commercial vineyard in the UK, with the original vines being planted in its deep chalky soil back in1952.  Under the new guidance of Berry Bros & Rudd and Symington Family  Estates,  this 200 acre vineyard in the South Downs National Park has a new visitor centre and restaurant with far reaching views across the vines and the rolling Hampshire hills.

The building is a large green oak barn with clay tiled roof, in keeping with the agricultural context of the vineyard.  The garden was designed by award winning designer Emily Erlam and planted up with plants to be used by the chef and his team.  Emily was looking for a sustainable paving solution for the terrace, that would fit with the context of the working vineyard and complement the green oak.  She was keen to use Ketley clay pavers, but her budget was tight.  She specified Ketley clay quarry tiles in commercial quality in brown brindle.  The tiles were downgraded from best product because they have been marked in the firing process, but here in this agricultural context, their rich clay colour together with some blemishes brings an established look to the terrace.   We think our commercial tiles suit this rustic setting perfectly!
