Ketley Staffordshire light multi quarry tiles

Architect Thomas Finch, Morales Finch Architects

Landscape Architect - Miria Harris

a Hackney garden with Ketley quarry tiles

The refurbishment of this Victorian terraced house in Hackney features Ketley light multi quarry tiles both inside and out.  Thomas Finch from Morales Finch Architects specified the tiles inside the house because he was looking for a robust tile that would not be overly dominant and one that would work nicely with the simple natural pallet of materials including clay plasters and oak detailing that he had chosen.

The clients brief to Miria Harris, landscape architect, was for a Mediterranean feeling to their garden, and as the space is NW facing, Miria knew this would be hard to achieve with planting.  She was already familiar with Ketley’s products and decided to extend the quarry tiles outside and make them the dominant aesthetic of the garden.  Her vision has been a success and the pinkish terracotta tones of the natural clay colours in the tiles give a warm Mediterranean character to the garden, wrapping up the walls and around the sides of the pond.  The use of quarry tiles has also allowed the inside living space to seamlessly flow out onto the terrace through the sliding doors.
